An Approach to New Research Ideas: Turning something qualitative to quantitative

Dr. SooCheong (Shawn) Jang is currently Full Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at Purdue University, USA. Dr. Jang’s research interests have been in business strategy management based on financial information and consumer behaviors. As a part of his research program, Dr. Jang has published more than 200 papers in top-tier refereed journals. In recognition of the importance of his research, Dr. Jang has received numerous accolades during the course of his academic career. For example, he was recognized as the top-ranked author in HTM academia in terms of publications in the top six HTM journals during the past decade (Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research (2011), 35(3), 381-416). In addition, Dr. Jang was a recipient of the W. Bradford Wiley Memorial Best Research Paper of the Year Award 2009, Martin Oppermann Memorial Award for the JTTM Best Article of the Year 2014, and Michael D. Olsen Research Achievement Award 2015. Dr. Jang has presented his research at numerous international conferences. During the past 20 years, 21 of the presented papers were selected as among the best papers at the international conferences.
Dr. Jang is currently serving as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee for APTA (Asia Pacific Tourism Association) and on the editorial boards of top-tier HTM journals such as Tourism Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, International Journal of Hospitality Management and more. Dr. Jang is frequently invited as a speaker for academic research or interdisciplinary research by many universities as well as international conferences.
